A 1949 graduate of the University of Tennessee, Chester has been involved in all types of writing during a career that has spanned 57 years. His resume includes work as a newspaper reporter, freelance writer, magazine editor, political speechwriter, advertising copywriter, public relations professional and an association executive. Currently a full-time fiction writer, he is West Area Representative of the Southeast Chapter, Mystery Writers of America, and a member of Sisters in Crime, the Tennessee Writers Alliance and Tennessee Mountain Writers. He lives with his wife, Sarah, in the Nashville suburb of Madison.

Chester has written three Greg McKenzie Mysteries featuring a retired Air Force OSI agent and his wife, Jill. In the first book, Secret of the Scroll, the couple brings home to Nashville a "souvenir" Dead Sea Scroll that turns out to be a genuine ancient Hebrew parchment. When the Palestinian group that used Greg to smuggle the scroll into the States fails to find the document, they take Jill hostage for its return. Designed to Kill, the second book, finds the pair at Perdido Key, FL looking for the murderer of their best friends' son, who was declared a suicide by the authorities. The newest mystery, Deadly Illusions, takes place in Nashville where Greg and Jill have opened a PI shop. A new client hires them to look into her husband's background, then disappears. Lurking in the background is a troubling police investigation of the assassination of the Federal Reserve Board chairman at a Nashville hotel.

Secret of the Scroll won a second place Bloody Dagger Award, was a finalist for the 2003 ForeWord Magazine Mystery Book of the Year and was nominated for the Dorothy Parker Awards.

A frequent panelist and speaker at mystery conferences, libraries, book clubs and any other place he can find a few listening ears, Chester also makes numerous radio appearances and a few TV interviews.
